People Watching

Fortunately people watching is one of my best past time in my 17 years of existence on earth. In my little world I envision the drug pushers, bored housewives, the after school kids, the young dating couples, the secret agents and other wacky professions that I can see in people, all based entirely on their appearance and body language. Well people watching pretty much sounds like some stalking activity huh? But I promise you it isn’t. I probably would if I coincidentally watch a drop dead gorgeous guy. Nice. Aback to the point, people watching is simply looking or observing someone you have never met before in and you try to guess their ambition and quirks and generally what shapes their life. Trust me indulging in this little game of people watching is entertaining, hilarious, fun and I have to say sometimes educational.

See I was invited to spend a lovely evening with my best friend and her family for dinner. Now how can a broke and pathetic soul turn down such an awesome offer? I have no idea about you people, but this was definitely an opportunity I will not miss. I jumped on the offer instantly. Besides uncle Ben (my best friend’s dad) have always treated me as family, hence I don’t think I am imposing at all.

On the third level of Wheelock place lays a restaurant, weirdly named sun with Japanese moon dinning and café. It was a Saturday evening and it wasn’t easy to get seats since we did not have any prior reservations. We were put on the waiting list and thankfully the waitress managed to get us seats within ten minutes.

As we stepped into the restaurant, the dimly lilted environment created a cozy ambience, this place is definitely top notch. It spans three units’ seats that range from regular dining chairs and lounges to counter chairs. We were seated at this tale with an L- shaped bench and comfy cushions, separated from the next table by a sheer white curtain with traditional Japanese drawings on it. Just as I was soaking up the whole atmosphere of my little Japanese thrill. A couple walked in and took the seats adjacent to us. It was then where I decided to embark on my new assignment of people watching. Besides observing couples can be pretty entertaining too.

Now they were happily seated at their seats. They looked at each other and smile politely, as they flip open the menu. Now here is where they have really different reactions, the lady flips open the menu and study it intensively, when her male partner flips frantically to the page he would order from. He seems to know what he wants. He glances at his partner to see if she was ready with her orders. She was still very busy deciding or perhaps studying the menu. He then closes the menu and look around. Now, she points something to him in the menu and looked at her partner. His eyes widen and turned into a forced smile after that. I bet he was taken aback by the astronomical prices of the place. She then went back analyzing the menu. I could not hear their conversation. However I was dead sure that they were definitely talking about sushi. Her partner was now really impatient; the frequent check the time on his watch, the shaking of his legs unaccountably, and the text messaging. One could tell that this boyfriend was really impatient. It was only at the 15th minute of the young couple’s dinner date where the lady finally decided what she would order for the evening. It was really obvious that the guy was really relieved. , Life came back to his face.

Throughout the entire dinner, their conversation was filled with smiles and laughter,i have to say the lady have a real flirtacious giggle. Ever since I have been playing people watching on couples I realized similar patterns, young couples that are in a relationship would gaze at each other dreamily. They will always be filled with a certain joy that makes them smile constantly, and correct me if I am wrong; it is always the female who is the one that is maintaining eye contact in the conversation. It was pretty obvious that this was a dating couple, on the journey of discovering their potential soul mate.

It is pretty obvious to tell a married couple from a dating couple.
There was a couple that sat next to my table, and I am dead sure that they were married. Guess the 4-carat ring gave that away. However comparing their behaviors with the other couple across the table, one can tell that the one beside mine was definitely a married couple. For starters they seem to know what they want, as soon as they were seated they scanned through the menu and called for the waitress within 5 minutes. In that 10 minutes I have learned so much about their lives, things like how the negotiation went with a client, and who would get the promotion and whether or not they deserve it, and how they detest to work with a certain character at work. Yes mundane office politics was basically what the whole or entire conversation was all about. Too much of work makes a person bitter. There was no smiles or even the sporadic smiles that should happen in every conversation. Sad I thought. However they did ordered a generous sum of food, one dish came flying in after the next, they did not even make much eye contact at dinner, both of them seem to be busy either with their food or on their phones. Unlike the other couple that would gaze at each other smittenly. As soon as they were done with dinner, they left in a hurry they gave an indulgent tip to the waitress.

Well comparing both couples, the dating one obviously seem to have more fun. But then

comes the pondering question, will all the romance fizzle out when one gets married? I have yet to find out for myself, however Saturday night’s people watch experience was definitely insightful. :)

here’s the new one

I sat down, that sat was mine and nobody can snatch it away from me.  Sitting across me there was a guy. He looks young, possibly 16- 19 years old. Like me he to, plugged himself to a world of music. He looked around self-consciously. He wore an oversized navy blue shirt, possibly two sizes bigger than his. His sleeves draped down sloppily. His hair was bronze brown. It is obvious that it had been treated and dyed a few times, as streaks if different shades of brown are evident. The dude is skinny and tall, with a narrow face and long tapering fingers. If my predictions were right, I would have guessed that he is a basketball player. Your typical, tall dark and skinny basketball player.

Just then his phone rang loudly, he panicked, he unplugged the ear phones to reach out for the chocolate bar phone in his pocket. He then glances around self-consciously again, before picking up the phone. Then a look of irritation was written on his face. I could not really understand what the whole conversation was, because of my handicap in my mother tongue. But I am dead sure that it was his mother- the women every teen fears and annoys.  The conversation was short and emotionless. He hung up, and went back to the world of music.
